KnitHope began in 2008 when our founder, Dana Getz, took up knitting and wished to do something useful with the scarves she had made. Since then, we have collected and distributed over 10,000 hats and scarves for those in need in our Pittsburgh community.
Each fall we collect handmade hats and scarves and partner with local organizations to distribute them in time for winter. These items provide more than just physical warmth. They represent someone's time, effort, and care. We at KnitHope believe that regardless of one's situation, everyone deserves to feel valued and cared for.
Knitting or crocheting a basic hat or scarf requires beginner level skills and inexpensive materials. People of all ages can make a difference by crafting from home and on their schedule!
Thanks to an amazing crafting community we collected 1,259 hats and scarves in 2023. Get ready for our 2024 collection!
