KnitHope Knitting & Crocheting Guidelines
What we collect:
- Handmade hats, hat & scarf sets, scarves, and socks
- Our most requested items are men's hats or adult sized gender neutral sets.
- We accept child and baby sizes, but are much more in need of gender neutral adult sized items. Many teens and older children wear adult sizes.
Dimensions/Design:
- Medium and Large adult sized hats
- Scarves should measure approximately 40-60" long by 5" wide. If the scarf is shorter or intended as a neck wrap, please indicate that on your packaging.
- Feel free to be creative with your color and design. However, the more gender neutral, the easier it is for us to place the items. Black, grey, and Pittsburgh Black & Gold are our most requested colors!
- Yarn: Natural and acrylic yarns are accepted. However, please refrain from pure wool or mohair as they may be irritating to some recipients' skin. Be sure that your items are free from pet hair and cigarette smoke before donating.
Packaging:
- Please place your completed item in a bag and label the size/type. If you are donating several items (such as hats) feel free to include multiple in one bag, just please label the amount.
Donate:
- Bring your completed items to one of our collection sites during our annual collection. We have our collection boxes available for donation drop-offs from September 1st-October 1st each year.
What we do not accept:
- Store bought (new or used) items. Please donate these items directly to organizations such as Goodwill.
- Used knitted/crocheted items that show signs of wear and tear
- Handmade items that are not completed projects.
- Note: We are not accepting new collection sites at this time.
